Our super Quilt Show Committee headed by Anne Watkins has planned and dealt with all the specifics (both large & small) in getting the show ready.
Now it is our turn to step up and do our part to help make this show the best ever!  We need to: 1.    Sign up for Joan’s classes.2.    Turn in our quilts on time - properly labeled and bagged.3.    Volunteer to work before, during, and/or after the show.4.    Bring cookies or drinks.5.    Help to advertise (wear t-shirt, distribute posters and bookmarks).
There is more information about each of those topics in the articles that follow.

Quilt Show News

Anne Watkins

As I am writing this, there are 22 days until set-up. Lots of things are happening and it is going to be great. Directions for turning in your quilt will be in a separate article from Michelle.  We will start hanging the quilts about 10:00 am on May 1st.  Small Groups can start hanging their displays at 12:00 noon. We have yet another sewing machine to give to an outstanding quilt maker.  Arvest Bank has agreed to purchase a sewing machine to be awarded to the quilt selected by Molly Shi Boren.   The Bazaar will have wonderful items to help you with your quilting.  Georjana Mauldin has sewing machine covers, iron cozies, mat scrubbies and thread catchers just to name a few.Joan has two classes to stimulate your creativity.  Now is the time to sign up for her classes.

Adrianne Fox has saved “special goodies” for the Ways and Means table.

Carol Haynes still has some shirts.  If you haven't received your T-shirt, call her for arrangements to get yours. Wilma DeBerry will have posters and bookmarks at the next guild meeting.  Please pick up what you can use to spread the word to all your friends, relatives, dentist, banker, or just anyone you meet.  If you don't meet them, call them or email them.  We want to share our quilts with as many as possible. Quilt shows require lots of volunteers to help in many ways.  We will have sign up sheets on the back tables at the next guild meeting.  Also please sign up to bring cookies and/or canned/bottled pop or water.   If you will not be at the meeting, call someone to sign up for you or call someone on the committee and we will find you a place to work that you will like.   We need to borrow a couple of easels if anyone has one or two we can use. Just a reminder, for guild members, the admission price is $5 for both days.
O.K., to sum everything up, what you need to do is:  turn in your quilts, sign up for classes, volunteer, tell everyone and then just come to the show.  See you there.

Attention Quilt Show Entrants!!!

Michelle Lynch

It is time to bring us the quilts you have entered in the show.   We will be accepting the quilts starting at 6:15 pm, April 21 (prior to the guild meeting)  If you are unable to bring your quilt(s) that evening we have 2 committee members who will accept quilts at their homes.  Wilma DeBarry, located on the west side of Norman, and DeAnn Morgan located in north central Norman.  You will need to call them to get their address, directions, and arrange a drop off time.  All quilts need to be received by April 28.              Please make sure that each quilt is in a fabric bag or pillowcase and both bag and quilt are clearly labeled with your name, and phone number.  There will be some paperwork to fill out when turning in your quilt, so please be sure to allow time to get that done before the guild meeting time.              We have over 120 quilts entered which will make a very good show, but it may also make the acceptance process rather cumbersome.  So please be patient with us.  We'll try to have things as streamlined as possible to avoid confusion!  If we run out of time before the guild meeting, we will finish the process after the regular meeting.            If you find that a quilt you have entered is unable to be in the show, please let me know as soon as you can. I will need to re-arrange the placement of quilts in a pleasing manner and/or find a quilt to fill in the empty spot.  Michelle Lynch,             Thank you all for entering the wonderful selection of quilts. This number will be sure to make our show a success.  Don't forget to sign up to help during the show.  In addition to quilts, it takes lots of volunteers to put on a show.  Besides that, it's lots of fun and a great way to get to better know your fellow guild members!

  Bazaar Notes:Georjana Maudlin

Hello fellow NAQG members, just a short note about the Quilt Show Bazaar.  I've handed out machine covers to some members, and a few members have said they are working on items for the Bazaar.  Please e-mail me to let me know your progress, or if you need help.  I am hoping to have all items in my possession by April 25th, so we can get prices on them.

Thanks so very much for all your help.  I am planning a post Bazaar party on May the 10th at my house in the afternoon 3pm- with desserts and coffee - for all Bazaar contributors!!!  We can decide the fate of the items left over after the Bazaar.  Please RSVP by e-mail of phone, if you can come to the after-party.

Programs Brenda Daniel I hope you all enjoyed having Janet Noever with us!  Here’s a summary of what’s happening for the next few months:April:  Billie Corgan (owner of Patchwork Place here in Norman) has organized a fashion show of jackets and bags made for and by quilters – so come prepared to cheer for the ladies on the “catwalk.”May:  We’re going to have a GAME night.  Get ready to act like a kid again!June:  On June 17, we’re going to participate in a joint meeting with the Edmond guild at Rose State College.  Our guest speaker and workshop teacher will be Karen McTavish, to show us her ravishing quilting (a rhyme is not necessarily a pun, but if you feel like groaning anyway, I won’t be hurt).  I expect it to be a marvelous experience!
Future:  I’m going to be planning approximately three more workshops for this year, based on the results from the survey you filled out.  Assuming I can work it all out, look forward to a workshop on Fractured Quilts with Brenda Esslinger, a workshop and program from Martha Green, and a workshop on hand appliqué.  More to come!
Featherweight Owners or                          Want-to-Be Owners This is an introduction to a new business in the area.  Your editor took it upon herself to believe that many of you might be interested!

Hello,

My name is Jim Sorrell and I recently moved to Seminole. I retired from Singer Co. and have stayed active in the sewing machine business.

I have a website www.sew-rite.com where I specialize in the Singer Featherweight sewing machine and other fine older machines.

On my website I have a page that is dedicated to a clinic that I hold teaching the owners of the featherweight how to maintain their own machines.

I recently conducted one for the OKC guild and several of the ladies suggested I contact nearby guilds to see if there might be an interest.

I would be happy to travel to Norman and introduce myself and explain what I do.

Thanks so much for your time.

If you are interested in having him come to a meeting, please mention it to Brenda.

Bring a fat quarter (or more!) for that month’s theme.  For every fat quarter you turn in you get a chance at winning the pool of fat quarters!  We have been splitting the piles into TWO OR MORE drawings, since so many are bringing fat quarters!  Keep them coming!  Each month we have a different theme.    April meetingTheme:  “Raindrops and Rainbows”  Blues – watercolors, pastels – something that gives you the hope of a cool summer                                                                              Coming at the May meetingTheme: “Riding into the Sunset”  Southwest themed fabrics and colors          Remember: Fat Quarters are 18" x 22", which is half of a half-yard of fabric (based on 42" - 45" width). Please give what you would want to receive, to make it fun for everyone. Send any ideas or suggestions to Georjana Mauldin , … or find me at the meeting!    Did you hear? A complete quilting demonstration was held at the Norman Library by members of our guild.

The Norman Area Quilters Guild presented a free, start-to-finish quilting demonstration on April 12 at the Norman Public Library, 225 N. Webster Ave.
The Lowry Room in the library contained stations demonstrating the different steps from planning to producing a finished quilt. Program attendees moved among the demonstrations observing the complete process.

Examples of the Rail Fence pattern and other simple designs were used.
Also during the day and through all of April, a display of quilts created by members of the Guild will be open in the library's Gallery Room.

Thank You Note from Jaquita Moore.....

My family and I wish to thank all of you for your concerns, cards, e-mails, prayers, etc. during this time of devastation as our business was destroyed by fire.  It is friendship that has kept us going.
We appreciate you and thanks again for your thoughtfulness.
